Every politician says New York is the greatest city in the world. But what good is that if no one can afford to live here?

Horry County, as reported by the Coastal Carolina Association of Realtors, is presently experiencing the most rapid growth among all counties in South Carolina. The surge in population is mainly driven by individuals moving from the northeastern and other areas to the southeast region of the state, with a focus on the Myrtle Beach vicinity.
A socialist mayor in New York City is projected to create economic distress in the city and those areas that feed off of the city’s success. Those areas include Philadelphia, New Jersey, the State of New York, and Connecticut.
Currently 32 million residents live in that geographic area.
According to Newsweek’s reporting: Zohran Mamdani’s proposals as a mayoral candidate have generated debate about a potential exodus from New York, particularly among businesses and wealthier residents. It’s important to consider different perspectives on this issue:
Arguments for a potential exodus
Broader economic impact: Some argue that a drastic minimum wage increase could lead to job losses and business closures, particularly affecting small businesses and those in labor-intensive sectors. There are also concerns that the proposed rent freeze could discourage new housing construction and investment, worsening long-term housing affordability. The latest Siena College poll indicates Mamdani is the favorite for November.
Impact on businesses: Critics argue that Mamdani’s socialist philosophy and proposed policies, such as a significant minimum wage increase, could be perceived as hostile towards businesses and lead them to relocate to places with more favorable environments. Some business leaders have already expressed concerns, with one supermarket tycoon even threatening to close shops if Mamdani wins.
Concerns about the wealthy: Policies like increased corporate taxes and income tax on the top 1% have led to speculation that wealthier individuals and corporations might consider leaving New York. Millionaires represent a significant portion of New York’s tax base, and their potential departure could impact the city’s financial stability. The latest Siena College poll is a concern for them.
If Cuomo, Newsweek, and MSNBC are correct, Horry County is projected to double in size over the next 2 years. Horry County currently has 411,000 residents.
Horry County is 15 years behind in current infrastructure development.
Local leaders should take into account the latest Siena College poll with the election being just 3 months away.
